Discussion:
Broadband and the weather?

The broadband signal was up and down like a wh*r*'s dr*w*rs yesterday,
but seems to be back to normal today. Could the weather be blamed for
this, or is my router perhaps getting old and tired?

I was playing around with http://local.live.com on the Dark Side, and
got rather worried when I had to power-cycle the router several times
in half an hour. I wondered if this site could have done some damage,
but it continued like this after I turned Windoze off and went back to
this Iyo. The signal kept dropping, but always came back if I was
patient.

With best wishes,

Peter.

If you were looking at the carrier, then yes it is possible it was
effected by the weather, ie flooding of underground cables, etc.

I've not received any reports of people having problems, and mine has been
working fine here - although we've had no rain!

What do the lights on the router do? Do they go off, start flashing, or ...?

When I can't connect, and I assume that I've lost the signal, the
light marked ADSL flashes rather than stays on; the RDY light flashes
all the time. When I can connect again, the ADSL light is steady once
more.

With best wishes,

Peter.

Hmm. Yes. That sounds like the router has lost sync with the exchange. When
it's flashing, can you login to the router and see what the status page
says?

If it stays flashing for more than a couple of minutes, you could ring
support and we could run a line test.

I'm sure I can log in to the router, but whether I'd be able to make
any sense of what I find there ...

Many thanks for this, but it's all behaving splendidly today.

With best wishes,

Peter.
