Might have been overtaken a little by sideways swinging announcements of
another firm's ultimate collapse, for the time being.. :))
true! :-)
D'you mean reading books, like the latest cassette players that, apart
from a light, don't need an external power source relying on scribed
marks - or 'book' as in you're betting on the horses in the hope that
your gee gee comes in a winner..?
Nooo. Not really. A blog is basically a "web log" or online diary. It
consists of a number of pages (one for each day of the year) selectable via
a handy calendar. Once you select a day, you simply enter a heading and
type your text in - which can be anything you want really.
When you click 'publish', the blog system takes your heading and text and
automatically converts it into a web page for you. Effectively, as I just
explained in my reply to Stuart, you can manage a website purely by
entering the data you require and you don't need to learn or worry about
HTML or coding or anything.
I dunno ..I'm not sure that I really know what a 'blog' is about ..apart
from the fact that backward capped younsters - and equally spotty and
gormless face-book addicts seem to use them incessantly - like dashing
around carving their initials all over the furniture..
Well, yes that as well. I guess it's because it's relatively easy and you
don't need any computer skills to organise one - simply logging in,
entering your text and publishing. The blog system then manages everything
else.
"Me Woz ere". Unless you happen to be, forgive the spice-ism, a
'Celeb', then who the hell is interested in just another 'look at me'
blog peeing on the trees..?
You don't have to write it about yourself. Blogs can be about anything. I
generally have a rant about random stuff in my own blog - although I don't
really update it that much because it was originally a test-bed for my blog
script and not really a blog per se because I wanted one.
You, Paul, have something of world-wide interest that holds a certain
large clientele. Of the many millions, not many can lay claim to that.
You mean I'm mad! :-)
(don't worry. I'm used to people referring to me as "mad paul") ;-)
So, what does a blog actually do...? ..or what do you expect your
'Blog' system to provide?
As above really - just an easy way for non techies to publish their
thoughts on the web.
I wonder if you might have more uptakers if some of us understood a
little more about the pros and cons and what it is you intend..?
At the moment, the pros are that you can add anything you like and worry
about stuff you wish to include rather than having to worry about layout,
design, HTML coding or whether or not it's viewable in all browsers etc.
The only real con so far is that it's organised in diary form, so not that
good if you want to publish a standard website - but as explained in my
previous reply, the blog system was a kind of precursor to developing a
full-blown web templating/content management system, again, exclusively for
Orpheus subscribers.
Anyway, if anyone wants a demo, I can arrange for a guided tour of the
system at the Southwest Show next weekend.
