Virus E-mails
(too old to reply)

For the second time this week my Orpheus mailbox has been
flooded with e-mails having UPS Tracking Number 0306934311
(or some other number) as the subject. They are around 66kB
in size and appear to be e-mailed viruses.

How do I know?

I have not downloaded any, instead deleting them off the
server, but I get some such e-mails sent to other,
non-Orpheus hosted mailboxes as well.

Neil Spelling's PurleyHosting strips the virus from the
e-mail and delivers the remainder, prefixing the subject
with {Virus?} and adding an attachment that includes the
following (one example):

The original e-mail attachment "invoice_8712.zip" is on the
list of unacceptable attachments for this site and has been
replaced by this warning message.

At Thu Jul 24 01:18:15 2008 the virus scanner said:
MailScanner: Windows/DOS Executable (INVOICE_8712.exe)
No programs allowed (INVOICE_8712.exe)

Is Orpheus's Virus scanning perhaps not up to the job?

I've had just the two of these, claiming in execrable English, to be
about non-delivery of a parcel. The attachment is a Windows .exe file,
so, as Russell says, a virus till proved otherwise. Anyone who falls
for all this has got to be a sucker indeed!

With best wishes,

Peter.
